For my recent Baby StepsĀ event, where we gathered 8 inspiring small sustainable brands to connect with new customers, I wanted to create a decoration that told its own story. Instead of purchasing new materials, I repurposed three monthsā worth of household wasteāfrom bottles to paper and beyond. With the help of friends, patience, and a bit of creativity, we turned kilos of trash into a stunning display. In total, I spent just Ā£20 on organic cotton strings and biodegradable tapeāand countless hours bringing it all to life.

Our venue, the Museum of Brands, made the perfect backdrop, blending so seamlessly with our DIY decor that guests thought it was part of the museumās exhibit. At the end of the event, I invited attendees to help us āpull down the trashā as a memorable way to dismantle the decorations. This simple gesture not only made cleanup easy but left everyone reflecting on our theme: when it comes to sustainability, we donāt have to be perfect, but we should do our best.

Curating my own waste as art was a way of embracing my imperfections while showing that beauty and meaning can be created from even the simplest of resources. Sustainability isnāt about perfectionāitās about progress, community, and creativity. š±āØ
